Storyteller

A full-time storyteller, Diane Edgecomb has delighted audiences of all ages for over fifteen years. Her joyful performance style enlivens both original stories and folkloric pieces especially those that center on the celebration of the natural world.Her innovative performances range from Environmental Teaching Tales and Nature Storytellings to Midsummer and Solstice Celebrations which integrate mythology and contemporary material.
Her style of telling is known for its rich characterizations and zany sense of humor. Her first two audiocassettes received starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly and one received an Honors Award from Storytelling World Magazine. She has performed at Three Apples Storytelling Festival, the Johnnycake Festival and at diverse venues throughout the country. She works consistently with nature organizations throughout the Northeast giving performances, workshops, and demonstrations on innovative ways to link storytelling and nature education. Diane has created thematic storytellings to dovetail exhibits at Museum of Science, New England Science Center and at Museum Institute for Teaching Science. In 1991 Diane created original stories for World Trade Center Boston's robotic dinosaur exhibit. Subsequently Roger Williams Park Zoo brought these same storytelling performances to R.I. for two summers (1992 & 1994) to complement their dinosaur exhibit. Diane has created original stories for Boston Harbor Confer ence ('What Now, Cloacina?!' published in a collection by New Society Press and republished by water conservation groups in Canada and England) and was commissioned by the Mass Audubon Society to create an original storytelling piece to celebrate their Centennial. She has been recognized nationally by Storytelling Magazine (Spring 1992) and (November 1996) and is written about in the newly published "Storytellers 120 English speaking performers Worldwide" (article enclosed). She was on the first steering committee of LANES the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling.
Edgecomb has created, directed and produced many performance events which celebrate seasonal events, most recently The Winter Solstice in Legend in Song at Charlestown Working Theatre. She has been featured several times on National Public Radio's Living on Earth and has been on the WGBH Spider's Web Series. Her teaching tale What Now Cloacina?!!Á has been published in story collections in America, Canada and England.
Performance venues include festivals, theaters, schools and museums throughout the US. She has been seen at the National Storytelling Conference, Club Passim, Cambridge, Academy of Natural Science in Philadelphia, Museum of Science in Boston, Old Vienna Kaffeehaus, Me and Thee Coffeehouse, and Loon Festivals from Maine to New Hampshire.
This dynamic solo performer also works with various musicians including Celtic harper Margot Chamberlain, composer Tom Megan and Kurdish musician Andrew Aytac. Either as a solo artist or accompanied by music, Diane Edgecomb brings to the storytelling art an originally entertaining and thoroughly captivating blend.
