Crafting an Eco-Narrative – a Workshop Intensive @ the National Storytelling Summit, Fremont CA

July 27, 2019

Register today for the 2019 National Storytelling Summit!

The 2019 National Storytelling Summit is being held in Fremont, California at the Marriott Fremont Silicon Valley.  This is a great chance to see fabulous performances, award-winning keynote speakers and participate in a variety of workshops over a four day period, conducted by the “cream-of-the-crop” of storyteller presenters. Do you want to bring nature telling into your storytelling work? Don’t miss the special “Eco-Track” at the conference. Marked by a leaf symbol this track gives many ways to unite story and nature.

At the Summit Diane will be presenting her workshop intensive on Friday July 26th at 1:45 pm on CRAFTING AN ECO-NARRATIVE
Description: Explore the many ways storytelling can build bridges to the natural world giving increased empathy and understanding. Using experience from over thirty years of collecting and creating educational nature tales, Diane helps participants develop stories to enhance nature, science and environmentally oriented presentations. Workshop participants will develop their own original teaching tales and practice ways to incorporate facts into folktales and narrative into factual studies whether indoors or out along the trail – all in a fun, interactive format.

Don’t miss the post-conference field trip to Coyote Hills: Comprised of over 1200 acres of marshland and rolling grassland-covered hills, Coyote Hills Regional Park is located along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay. It is the home of a more than 2,000-year-old Tuibun Ohlone Village site, as well as a wide variety of migratory birds, and wonderful views of San Francisco Bay. Immediately following the conclusion of the 2019 Summit, we will travel by charter bus from the hotel to Coyote Hills Regional Park. We will meet staff naturalist, Francis Mendoza, and Kanyon Sayers-Roods, a member of the Costanoan Mutsun Ohlone Tribe, who will share stories and give us a private tour of the shell mounds where we will enter a reconstructed Ohlone-style family house, sweat house, and shade shelter.
