Diane in traditional Kurdish clothing from Iraqi-Kurdistan.

Diane will be performing Fatima, the Kurdish Cinderella and other tales from Kurdistan for families with children ages five and older at the Hans Christian Andersen Storytelling Series in Central Park, NYC (near 72nd street). Diane gathered this story from traditional tellers in the Kurdish region of Turkey

Diane’s dynamic storytelling embraces elements of theatre, movement and song, giving each story its own unique presence and life. Featured on NPR and at the International Storytelling Center, Diane has authored the first book of Kurdish folktales in English: A Fire in My Heart: Kurdish Tales gathering them in remote mountains.  “…an entire cast rolled into one!.”

For 60 years children and their families have gathered near the Hans Christian Andersen statue to hear his tales. This event is sure to be a special one and it is free and open to the public. This series is hosted by Laura Simms a world-renowned teller of traditional tales.
