Diane presents her workshop “Forbidden Stories” on Friday, July 27th at 8:30 pm as part of the National Storytelling Summit in Kansas City, MO. The theme of the conference is “Communities, Conflicts, and Transformational Stories,” and Diane’s workshop focuses on her work with the Kurdish people. Diane shares experiences from her decades long work gathering the folkloric and true stories of the Kurds of Turkey. This silenced and persecuted community risked their safety for this project. The workshop session alternates scenes from Diane’s performance “A Thousand Doorways” with the backstory that surrounds this project and its development. In the process of we’ll explore our own backstories (personal history) as well as the understory of cultural and societal experiences that shape us.
