During the months of January and February 2023, I am completing and submitting a Manuscript of a new book: Insights from Grotowski’s Laboratory Theatre: Actor Training and Conversations with Zbigniew Cynkutis (tentative title)

Many years in the making, this book describes the workshop process of legendary actor, director and teacher Zbigniew Cynkutis. His inspirational practice has informed my own work for decades, always encouraging me to search deeper. From the creation of my critically acclaimed solo-work Restraints, to my own training processes which link Voice- Body, and Image into one Whole, his work and his words have been a living source, a deep well to drink from throughout my career. Now I wish to make the exercises and philosophy transmitted in this seminal workshop available to all. My personal narrative takes the reader into the heart of the search for sources for our art in this workshop intensive led by one of the most intrepid members of Grotowski’s Laboratory Theatre. What it was like to try to attempt the impossible in the name of the art? For those with curiosity about the backstory on this actor-based and revolutionary way of training and developing performance pieces,  Cynkutis’s candid conversations on some of the history of the Theatre Lab. Audio of Cynkutis leading training, working and speaking on the deep processes of art he and his group supported, will accompany the book.

My performance schedule will resume in late February/March along with EVENTS to mark the upcoming publication of this seminal work on Cynkutis. A READING of excerpts from the book, a VIDEO RELEASE of my solo-work Restraints accompanied by commentary and video on training sessions with Cynkutis’s late wife, Jolanta Cynkutis AND an ongoing writers and tellers WORKSHOP ON PERSONAL MEMOIRS to allow others to source their stories on those who have inspired the good in their lives.
