“Deirdre and other Irish tales and Songs” Storytelling & Celtic harp @ The International Storytelling Center, Jonesborough, TN
September 5, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Wednesday, September 5th, don’t miss: Deirdre of the Sorrows and other Irish stories and songs
Deirdre of the Sorrows
Diane brings to life Ireland’s storytelling treasure the hauntingly beautiful Deirdre of the Sorrows. The most famous of all Irish romances, Deirdre weaves together Druidic prophecies with a forbidden passion so profound it dares to defy the fates. The story is set to a dramatic score by Tom Megan with original and traditional melodies played by the versatile Margot Chamberlain on a variety of Celtic folk harps. Enjoy an evening of humor, passion and music with these two inspiring performers.
About the Residency: Diane is thrilled to represent the storytelling art as Storyteller in Residence at the International Storytelling Center for the week of September 2nd – September 7th. Each day at 2:00 pm there will be a matinee performance featuring some of Diane’s most beloved pieces. Accompanied by Celtic harper Margot Chamberlain, the matinees will feature award-winning pieces such as Diane’s rendition of the famous Irish love story “Deirdre of the Sorrows” and her comedic upbeat spoof of New Ageism: “New Age Gawain and the Bungee-Jumping, Wild-man Green Knight.” Diane and Margot will also present: “In the Groves” a story and music exploration of the world of trees and “The Language of Flowers” with folkloric story and song about flowers through the ages.
