RESTRAINTS:
Created through improvisations spanning six years and three countries, RESTRAINTS ventures into that forbidden territory where madness and spiritual transcendence meet. A swirling, surreal tapestry of Shaker hymns, the ecstatic poetry of Rumi, and recollected dreams accompany one woman’s journey through the dark night of the soul evoking existential questions about whether the light that shows the way is light true or false. Immersive in style, the performance takes the audience on a roller coaster ride etched through with moments of irony, pathos and gallows humor. Will it be mind, body or soul that holds the key to opening the right “doors of perception” on this dangerous quest?
“Restraints swings soundly into the next world. Edgecomb expertly captures the terrifying fluidity of psychosis… her juxtapositions prove inspired; she’s aware that fairy tales, the gospels and all great drama come from the same tormented place.” Boston Globe
