Moved by the silencing of the Kurdish language by Turkish laws, renowned American storyteller Diane Edgecomb embarks on a journey of intrigue and heart to record the last Kurdish storytellers. This is the deeply moving, richly humorous story of her travels through the remote mountains of Turkey and of the extraordinary people who shared their lives and their stories with her. This special matinee is followed by a reception hosted by First Church Boston and a talk-back with Diane Edgecomb and Kurdish artist Selahattin Sep whose evocative paintings are on exhibit at First Church throughout the month of March.

“We Stand for the ‘Stans!'” a House Concert with Diane Edgecomb and Cathryn Fairlee, Cotati, CA

Join us at this intimate house concert to hear traditional tales personally gathered in the "stans." Diane and Cathryn share the stories they gathered in remote regions - Diane's folkloric stories from Kurdistan and Cathryn's from Uzbekistan and other regions. Cathryn has been to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and will tell Turkemenistan stories from their most famous bard, Dede Korkut. Diane will be sharing new Kurdish folk and fairy tales never before translated or told in English.
